Announcement of a:
MEETING and pot luck for Sunday July 19, 2026 starting at about 12:30pm (13:30)
– public invited. for details see below.
I just learned some helpful information today which might help this CANUSA PROJECT INC. a non profit whose purpose is looking into establishing a legal Schengen type zone between Canada and the USA.
Coming back to Canada from going to the UU church in Derby Line VT, I asked the Canadian Border officer if a person coming from the USA would be allowed into Canada with only an “enhanced drivers licence” ?
The answer surprised me. It was that they as an officer basically needed to know if the person (you) plan to stay in Canada or are planning to go”back home” to the US or wherever. Therefore, you must have something in your hand to show them guaranteeing that you will leave Canada after this visit.
-That idea is entirely different than requiring a “passport”.
-That concept along with harmonized legal behavior permitted the Schengen Zone Area to be established for 5 countries about 30 years ago ( 26 March 1995) and now grown to 29 countries -and growing. “The Schengen zone includes 25 European Union (EU) states alongside 4 non-EU countries (Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein)”
Look it up for yourself.
While the Schengen Agreement removes permanent internal border controls—allowing you to cross borders without stopping for checks—it does not remove the legal requirement to carry identification.
Problems they overcame, and for us to overcome are:
-Border Security external to there own Borders ie. those touching non Schengen countries
-Data Integration,
-Corruption and Rule of Law,
-Visa Policies.
Our economically depressed area of Derby Line,VT and Stanstead,QC were once thrived due to trade internationally, but have become more and more depressed due to the ever tightening of the CAN/US border requirements. It results in less trade, less social interaction, and less trust. The worst problem is that it might take “generations” to reestablish trust and simple trade again. I now know Canadians that refuse to have anything to do with the US and are afraid TO EVEN GO NEAR THE Border and refuse to purchase anything US related ….(except military).
Talking with our current WWOOFer from France I learned that they as young European people are so used to the Schengen Area that they do not hesitate crossing Schengen Area borders because they never have to stop at borders! Of course they could be stopped anywhere and required to show a Schengen legal document.
There is no problem bringing most personal items across these borders with their harmonized laws.
They attend concerts, sporting events, do personal shopping, attend family outings in other Zone countries without fear of being stopped at borders. Each country has it’s own internal laws enforced internally, like VT vs NH and QC vs ON borders and internal rules.
So if I am correct in my recent information, Canada and the USA already have a partial Schengen Area between them – basically , and just the details need to be worked out and implemented legally and socially between them
To help with this project, we are hosting a pot luck Sunday July 19, 2026 starting at about 12:30pm (13:30) here in our multi purpose hanger and social hall/ dance hall/wedding venue at Weller Airport/Weller Farm Stanstead, QC CA. All those willing to share food, information and ideas are welcome to come participate. It is off grid and you can drive in or fly in to CTQ2 with a small airplane. All people who choose to come to this property must by the act of coming to have also agreed to attend “at their own risk”. No insurance.
FYI:
Schengen, a small village in Luxembourg.
“The village was chosen for its highly symbolic location on the Moselle River, where the borders of Luxembourg, Germany, and France meet. Fittingly, the original 1985 agreement was signed aboard a boat named the M.S. Marie-Astrid anchored at this very tripoint.”
Could we people, citizens of our “2 most friendly” countries in the world (or used to be), develop the substance of a legal agreement /procedure perhaps to be signed eventually at the world famous international Haskell Library/Opera House, right at a table in their Reeding Room, placed directly over the black tape on the floor that indicates the Canada/USA Border?,
Such an agreement would permit legal border crossing abilities for legal people between Canada and the US !!
For those familiar with the US Declaration of Independence: the unanimous declaration of the thirteen united States of America and in the original printing is the founding document of the United States.
Could we not have a document declaring our Declaration of Dependence?
We depend on many things like air to breath food to eat, people and industries to help, people and places to see, personal items to carry across our common Borders, and a way to legally and freely do it.
