Our Products

Everything we produce on the farm is done without using synthetic fertilizers or pesticides.  We feed our grass fed Beefalo cows in our U Pic garden in the Winter and mix up their manure and left over hay to fertilize the soil in the Spring.

With the current Covid 19 virus problem and people separation requirements, it seems easier and more healthy to come freshly pick your own food in a very scenic location, weigh it, check the price, and leave the money in the money box- all without needing to interact with anybody else.

Food

Seasonal fruits and vegetables:

We grow seasonal fruits and vegetables for ourselves and for sale.

Depending on the time of year, we grow carrots, beets, sweet corn,  potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, herbs, leeks, celery, onions, garlic, wild mushrooms, squash and much more.

In our orchard, we grow apples, pears, blueberries, raspberries and other delicious fruit. George even developed a unique apple variety – Weller’s St John– which is now being grafted for commercial use. It is a sweet apple with thick skin that has an extremely long shelf life (until mid summer) without the need of a special controlled atmosphere storage as for other apples.  It is juicy but not too crisp.  Unlike commercial apples from stores, these trees are disease resistant as are most of our other apple trees, so the developing apples do not need spraying for any fungus or other problems except insects.

Come and pick yourself from our garden and orchard!  Once you are introduced to the system, you can come pick any time, weigh and pay yourself.

Most of our fruit and vegetables are also available frozen. Check out our special freezing technique that keeps our produce fresh and tasty for more than a year.

Or why not try our homemade natural hoppy carrot wine or different  jams?

Our address is 4945 Stage Road Stanstead East. Stay on the paved road.  After entering our driveway and stopped in front of the gate, push button on the gate post, which is next to the driver side of the car, to open gate for two minutes. The gate is usually kept closed to keep dogs and puppies from running onto the road.

Hints for canning and freezing:

When canning, make sure jar, lid and contents are up to boiling temperature and fill jars with hot sterile produce to about 1/8 inch from rim, but make sure rim is clean when lid carefully put on and tightened. When the jar’s contents cool, there will be 1/2 to 3/4 inch space at the top which is mostly a vacuum sealing the lid. You can then remove the screw ring, clean and store it for next time. Your canned produce will last years since most of the air has been eliminated that was at the top of your product, and the air was the only source of harmful microbes.

When freezing fill plastic bags with water around contents. Squeeze out extra water from around your product, tie and freeze. Food frozen in a block of ice lasts for years with no freezer burn.

Beefalo

We also raise Beefalo cattle for meat. Beefalo meat is indistinguishable from regular beef, but with the added benefits of better flavor, being higher in protein and a lot lower in fat and cholesterol, and the only beef to have vitamin C. Find more details on Beefalo here

Beefalo cattle are a fertile hybrid cross of bovines (cattle) and American bison. The name Beefalo is said to have originated in the early 1970s with breeder Bud Basalo who was the first one to get fertile offspring.

The two types were first bred together when bison herds began to dwindle across North America. Today’s full blood beefalos are three eighths bison and meat animals are usually three sixteenths bison, the rest being bovine of some meat kind.

More detail on Beefalo is here.

Trout

Prefer fish? You can also fish for trout in our stocked ponds. Bring your fishing rod and enjoy the surrounding peacefulness while waiting for your next meal to bite. Please phone (+1 819 876 2528) or email for availability.

Fruit and Vegetables

In our greenhouse, the only power we use is the sun streaming through the glass walls. The greenhouse is attached to the farmhouse and opens off the den. Depending on the time of year, we grow carrots, beets, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, herbs, leeks, celery, onions, garlic, mushrooms, squash and more, much of it started in the greenhouse.

As an added bonus, in amongst the pots of growing things, is our indoor pool and spa!

We also grow apples in our orchard, which is a short walk from the house.  George has a unique apple variety he developed- Weller’s StJohn- which is now being grafted for commercial use.  It is a hard, sweet apple with thick skin that has an extremely long shelf life, lasting in storage good until mid summer without special controlled atmosphere  storage, like for other apples.
